Colour that survived a thousand years.
The Mogao caves at Dunhuang hold murals painted between the fourth and fourteenth centuries, and the reason they still hold colour is mineral pigment: azurite, malachite, ochre. We built the palette of this pair from that range rather than from a screen.
A palette with a source
Mineral pigments age differently from dyes. They dull rather than fade, and they sit heavier on the surface. Matching that on textile meant pulling the saturation down and letting the ochres do the work the blues normally would.
Panel-matched print
The mural bands run horizontally across the upper, aligned so they continue across the seam instead of restarting. Each panel is positioned before cutting.
Made in small batches
Hand-lasted, hand-bonded, cured overnight. The run size is set by how many pairs the workshop can finish properly in a week.
Final run. This design was produced in a single limited batch and will not be reprinted. Once a size sells out it is gone for good.
