Embossed, not printed.
The dragon on this pair is pressed into the surface rather than drawn onto it. There is no ink defining the outline, so the whole pattern depends on how light falls across the raised areas.
A pattern with depth
Because the relief is tonal, the dragon appears and disappears as you move. Static photographs undersell it badly. In person it behaves closer to jacquard than to print.
Two colourways
Black and wine red. On black the relief is at its most subtle. On wine red the highlights catch harder and the dragon is visible from further away.
The most involved pair we make
Embossing adds a pressing stage before the upper can be cut, and any sheet that presses unevenly is discarded. It is the reason this edition runs at a higher price and a smaller quantity than the rest.
Final run. This design was produced in a single limited batch and will not be reprinted. Once a size sells out it is gone for good.
