Two bored angels, five hundred years of fame.
Raphael painted them in 1512 at the very bottom of the Sistine Madonna, almost as an afterthought. They have since outgrown the painting entirely. The print gives them the whole outer panel.
Detail at working distance
The faces only hold up if the resolution does. Printed too small or too coarse, the expressions collapse into mush. The scale here is set so both faces stay legible from standing height.
Muted around the artwork
Soft ground, off-white sole, neutral laces. Nothing on the shoe competes with the two figures.
Hand-assembled
Lasted and bonded by hand in small batches, then checked individually under a lamp.
Final run. This design was produced in a single limited batch and will not be reprinted. Once a size sells out it is gone for good.
