Fifteen flowers, one yellow, painted in a week.

Van Gogh painted the Arles sunflowers in August 1888 while waiting for Gauguin to arrive. The whole series is an argument about how many different things one colour can do, and that is exactly what makes it hard to print well.

Yellow on yellow on yellow

Yellow on yellow on yellow

Chrome yellow, ochre, olive, cream. Van Gogh separated them with paint thickness rather than with different hues, which is invisible to a cheap print process. We printed at a resolution that keeps the brush ridges readable so the flowers do not merge into one flat block.

The composition is placed to keep the vase and the tabletop line on the shoe, not cropped out. It reads as the painting, not as a texture derived from it.
